No one can accuse author Robert Thornhill of not being relevant The newest mystery comedy in the Walt Williams series Lady Justice and the Assassin mixes the topical concerns of a still sluggish economy; the middle class being driven into poverty; and the perceived trampling of civil liberties in particular those protected by the 2nd Amendment by combining the forces of the Ozark Militia and the Neo Nazi followers of the Aryan Brotherhood Confederation to hatch a plot to assassinate the President and Vice President This joint group chooses a man who has lost his job due to outsourcing and is facing the total loss of all his material gains who has to send his wife and son to live with her parents while he sorts through the household goods of what to keep and what to sell before the home is lost to foreclosure who is now hounded by collection agencies has no health insurance and is sitting in a cold home where the utilities have been cut off This man normally a patriotic American who never even had a speeding ticket is presented the opportunity to reclaim all his possessions and set his family onto the path of solvency by doing just one small task for the alliance shoot the President Will he do it? Additionally Walt and his partner Ox deal with daily crime and life in Kansas City MO recruitment for members in the Vipers a vicious gang operating in NE Kansas City and the strange shaving of pedigree dogs left home by their owners The mysterious “shaving” case makes for comic relief in a book filled with too real to life situations Unless or course your pooch is the one that has been shaved Just where did Thornhill get this idea?? The combination of these simultaneous cases makes for fun reading This book has all the old stand by characters Maggie and Judy the wives of Walt and Ox; Walt's dad and his girlfriend Bernice; Mary the manager with a ball bat of the flop house owned by Walt; Jerry the Joker; Louie the Lip a gangster you want as a friend rather than an enemy; and Willie his pimp turned maintenance man who has saved Walt on than one occasion Fast paced the reader will find himself racing through the pages to see how Walt and his friends once again bring down all the bad people and restore justice to their corner of the world

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my reuest and have voluntarily left this reviewI found this book entertaining I enjoyed reading the book from the joint POV though it did take away the mystery of the book which just left Walt's uniue humour which can be a little grating if you aren't a fan of guy humour and various accounts of Walt's inability to use the toilet correctly

I really enjoyed this book I have been seeing the Lady Justice series on goodreads but this is the first one I have read I was pleasantly surprised Walt makes a good leading man I like his relationships with his wife and his friends It is refreshing to read about someone who has his life together The plot about the assassination attempt on the president seemed plausible although the battle with the gang members seemed a little far fetched to me I liked the touches of humor in the book and the way that it made me think about political issues I am definitely going to read from this author

  10. Conny Conny says:

I got this book as a free download and I really enjoyed it Not only does the Lady Justice series has lovable main characters there is always something funny in each book that makes me laugh out loud along with plenty of action of a serious nature This book has a great plot line and I had a hard time putting it down I thoroughly enjoy that the main characters in the book are all older individuals and romance is not dead and Walt and Ox can still kick some butt along with a motley crew of helpers Two thumbs up
