Though as with any edited collection some of the contributions here were interesting to me than others the overall impetus behind this book ie to assert the importance of attending to materialmatter in media studiesSTS and some other less freuently alluded to disciplines as well as to see how approaches to material studies from various disciplines might usefully cross fertilize each other is certainly in my wheelhouse And apart from finding many provocative things to think about from having read this collection I'm now especially captivated by Steven Jackson's ideas about repair and breakdown I was even taken with the format of the collection itself Specifically I really appreciated how it mimicked conference panels such that each of the two parts contained four papers which the contributors had corresponded about and gotten feedback on from each other at various stages in the writing process and two shorter response essays I really felt this format helped the chapters have coherence and synthesis than most edited collections and would love to see similar collections adopt such a structure in the future
