This book was written in the early 1990's and it's interesting how our healthcare system doesn't look so incredibly different from then Not the most captivating read but it was interesting to read about the struggles of a small hospital in Maine and realize how much of a conundrum healthcare can be One the one hand we feel a moral obligation and rightfully so I think in most circumstances to help our neighbors who need care but on the other we have hospital staff and doctors to pay to do this work and most of the time this doesn't balance I certainly don't know what the solution is but I think it's good to keep this in mind and read books like this to remind us to keep pushing for a better different system

I have reread this book because of the multiple things in healthcare that have happened in the last 5 years While there now are other issues such as Electronic Records so much of the book captures the pulse in a small hospital and some things never change
