After the first few pages I almost dropped the book as a needlessly challenging read It's experimental in sections with written descriptions of geometric point line relationships reminiscent of a Sol LeWitt wall drawing instruction setMore than just an obtuse gimmick Lippard even addresses the uestion of the varied possible experiences of reading the very visual descriptions in one of the strangely vulnerable diary like paragraphs included among a collage of descriptions dialogue narration and uotations It really worksI was delightedly surprised by how well these sections were interwoven and metaphorically balanced with the traditional parts of the novel and with the honesty and introspection written into the character's dialogue and narration The novel smoothed out and became uite compelling beautiful personal and feminist with the experimental geometric bits contributing to a powerful reading experience
