I really, really love DW Marchwell s writing style I love her choice of character development and how loving her men are.Because I m a fan, I don t like writing a review of anything less than stellar, but this book just didn t do it for me.Behr David is in hiding from his brother who killed Behr s husband and is now in jail, but has outside connections Essentially Witness Protection.Sal is his neighbor and the two have an almost instant attraction to one another Their romance is slow to tak I really, really love DW Marchwell s writing style I love her choice of character development and how loving her men are.Because I m a fan, I don t like writing a review of anything less than stellar, but this book just didn t do it for me.Behr David is in hiding from his brother who killed Behr s husband and is now in jail, but has outside connections Essentially Witness Protection.Sal is his neighbor and the two have an almost instant attraction to one another Their romance is slow to take hold though, because of the secrets Sal is reluctant to be involved, again, with someone not entirely truthful. In fairly short order, Sal learns the truth and the two become lovers.Over the course of only 3 months, it becomes clear that Behr is in danger and may need to move again, or risk his and Sal s life.Fortunately things resolve in a way that allows the men their HEA What didn t work for me I never felt that Behr got over his first love, even though, by the end marriage looks to be on the horizon It felt just a little too convenient, rather than an epic love The second thing I didn t care for was the resolution at the end I really thought there would be some angst and danger and life threatening moments or separation and we get a small moment there at the end, but it was rather anti climactic. So if you are a fan of DW Marchwell, you may still want to read this Her writing is still wonderful But I was a bit disappointed by the story and not as moved as I have been in the past by her books

I m afraid, this book was in passages to long winded or monotone for me As always with this author, writing and storyline were good, but inexplicably, I wasn t able to connect with either MC Both were nice men, but they just couldn t hold my undivided attention, the first half of the story just felt a little bit lifeless It was just burbling along, and I wasn t that happy that there were stillthan 50% left Fortunately a little after passing the middle the book started to getmov I m afraid, this book was in passages to long winded or monotone for me As always with this author, writing and storyline were good, but inexplicably, I wasn t able to connect with either MC Both were nice men, but they just couldn t hold my undivided attention, the first half of the story just felt a little bit lifeless It was just burbling along, and I wasn t that happy that there were stillthan 50% left Fortunately a little after passing the middle the book started to getmovement and it was much easier to stay focused I definitely started to enjoy itRegrettably, for me, the first half of the book had already set a certain mood for the whole, which I wasn t able to totally shake off until the end, and I never got fully back to appreciate the plot view spoiler And, at the end, something that was bothering me here, but is not directly connected with this book or my rating, but a question for all of us and the publisher s Does anyone ever understand why there are BOYS on bookcovers, when the stories are about MEN, nearing their forties never ever got it head shake hide spoiler

Review can be read at It s About The BookBehr is trying to start over He s put his brother in jail and he s going to begin again with a new identity It s going to be okay There will be an adjustment period but he ll manage Life has been difficult since Behr s brother killed his husband, but now the ordeal is over And there is a sexy guy next door Umm, the sexy guy next door was not part of the plan Sal immediately notices the new guy on the block Sal immediately starts flirting withReview can be read at It s About The BookBehr is trying to start over He s put his brother in jail and he s going to begin again with a new identity It s going to be okay There will be an adjustment period but he ll manage Life has been difficult since Behr s brother killed his husband, but now the ordeal is over And there is a sexy guy next door Umm, the sexy guy next door was not part of the plan Sal immediately notices the new guy on the block Sal immediately starts flirting with the new guy on the block It starts off slow, they re just friends, and there are odd inconsistencies in the guy s stories Sal really likes Behr but knows he s hiding something Behr admits the truth to Sal and they becomethan just friends There are looming issues, of course Like the danger that landed Behr in witness protection in the first place That s not gone Yet.This book was significantlyrelationship based than mystery or crime based The majority of the conflict was internal with Sal and Behr not really knowing if it was wise to enter a relationship with all the proverbial sword of Damocles hanging over their heads They thought about this a lot For pages and pages They thought about that before they started the relationship, as it was starting, and after it started They thought about it for the overwhelming majority of the book I don t think this made the book bad, per se, but I was hoping forexternal conflict We got some, but it was certainly not what I had been expecting.Sal and Behr were really nice and understanding guys trying to protect themselves from heartache Well, heartache and murder by gang members, but heartache was the biggie I like books where nice guys win, but something here felt too nice, to me Sal and Behr were too nice, too good for each other I think my main objection in regards to this goes back to my previous paragraph where I mention the conflict in the story seems to come exclusively from Sal and Behr s internal conflicts.I m American and this book is set in Canada I have no real world experience in law enforcement, but I found the protection Behr got to be less than exemplary If this book represents the reality of being a protected witness I can see why people get away with crime More importantly, the handling of some aspects of Behr s protection felt unreal to me as I was reading the story If I stop reading and spend a few minutes wondering if that s how it would really happen, or I message a friend to ask their opinion on how a case should be handled by witness protection there is a problem as I m not happily reading the story any.I think this story had some well played twists and a charming romance, but it was ultimately a bit too long for my tastes given the lack of conflict the characters experienced

Review Scattered Thoughts And Rough WordsEven the Innocent by D W Marchwell was not the story I hoped for I was waiting for something better It s a good story with good characters, main and secondary ones too Sal s family was amazing The blurb sounded really good and the premise caught my interest The reason why I can t give itthan three stars is that it didn t deliver as I was expecting Let s start from the beginning.Behr just moved to Montague, Canada with his two Shepherd dog Review Scattered Thoughts And Rough WordsEven the Innocent by D W Marchwell was not the story I hoped for I was waiting for something better It s a good story with good characters, main and secondary ones too Sal s family was amazing The blurb sounded really good and the premise caught my interest The reason why I can t give itthan three stars is that it didn t deliver as I was expecting Let s start from the beginning.Behr just moved to Montague, Canada with his two Shepherd dogs, Charlie and Lucy He had to start a new life, in a new place, a new home and a new identity, after testifying against his own brother Maurizio, who killed Dino, a policeman and Behr s husband for ten years.Sal teaches physical educational and has a large, overwhelming Italian family but he is pretty much lonely When he meets the beautiful man with redhair and cute dogs, he is soon attracted to him, but the man flees The Fate will give Sal a second chance when the fearful man ends up being his new neighbor, Behr.Behr is often on the edge, always watching his back for some revenge from his brother Sal knows he is hiding something but he s not worried about, he just wants to live this story, be able to make Behr smile again and show him how much Sal cares about him I liked Sal a lot, he s funny, caring and a great family man, just what Behr needs.I was expectingangst at the start but honestly the story is not heavy or depressing, cause the author chose to bring Sal and Behr soon quickly So while I was waiting for something to happen, what I really got was simply a sweet story between two lonely men It was a light reading, with some funny moments in it too.I liked the story in general but I d have preferred for the MCs to not be together so soon In my opinion it was too early because Behr went through so much hurt I expected him to wait a littlebefore trusting someone who was basically a stranger with his secrets, that would have been better, especially when his own blood betrayed him in the worst way Through all the reading I had the feeling Sal and Behr didn t realize the danger they were in They acted too careless, foolishly At the end the story resolved too simply, missing depth in the characters I had expected. It is an okay reading, if you re in the mood for something light Since I thought I was going to read a different story, Even The Innocent disappointed me in some parts, definitely not the best book I read by D.W Marchwell

3.5 heart review by DennisAfter putting his brother in prison for murdering his lover, Behr has to put his old life behind him to stay alive Never did Behr think while having to look over his shoulder, that he would meet and possibly fall for the man across the street.Sal hasn t had the best of luck finding love Living back in his hometown and feeling defeated, he never thought to find someone who just moved in across the street from him so appealing When finally meeting each other Sal begins 3.5 heart review by DennisAfter putting his brother in prison for murdering his lover, Behr has to put his old life behind him to stay alive Never did Behr think while having to look over his shoulder, that he would meet and possibly fall for the man across the street.Sal hasn t had the best of luck finding love Living back in his hometown and feeling defeated, he never thought to find someone who just moved in across the street from him so appealing When finally meeting each other Sal begins asking Behr questions about his life and where he came from But there seem to be a lot of holes in Behrs story I found the love story between Behr and Sal nice and entertaining The banter between them and Sal s flirtatious ways are great Without giving any spoilers, where I felt a little disappointed in this book was with the action, or lack of action actually Throughout the book I was waiting for all hell to break loose and have Behr s brother show up, or his goons and have the shit hit the fan and although there is a twist that I didn t expect, I felt a bit deflated Other than having lackluster action, I did enjoy the book, the story and the characters.A copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review Please visit www.lovebytesreviews.com to see this and manyreviews, author interviews, guestposts and giveaways
